This book is intended as a primer for the investor or investment banker not familiar with the pulp and paper industry. Your interests may lie in debt, equity, or both. This book will not focus so much on the types of investment instruments in which you are interested, but rather on the workings of the pulp and paper industry and how these manifests themselves in the public and private debt and equity markets. The author feigns no special expertise in financial instruments, although his experiences over the years have exposed him to the uses and ramifications of many. Rather, in this book he strives to give you a brief education in the investment capital, operating capital, and cash flow characteristics of this industry. Along the way, it is hoped you will also pick up some signals that will give you first clues as to whether a particular investment opportunity holds promise or is something which may be fraught with danger.
